Shaving Brush Plants are unique macroalgae you'll want in your saltwater aquarium. Though exotically shaped, the Penicillus species of plants are very adept at helping control excess nutrients in almost any marine or reef aquarium. Just a few of these in your saltwater system can go a long way towards helping reduce nitrate and phosphate from the water column. Brush Plants grow in sandy shallow water fields throughout the world. Plant them in aquarium substrate in an area that is well illuminated. Most herbivorous fish and invertebrates will not normally consume this plant.
